Why brunch out when you can brunch in...

First let me bore you, as you may or may not know I am 24 and work part time in retail. Working 9 - 2pm 5 days a week... Recently i've been doing tonnes of over time for holiday spending money. I've worked 12 days in a row and today is my day off, i've been looking forward to this since the first day of the twelve days. I've missed doing a lot of things but one of them is brunching, so I planned ahead and went food shopping last night.

It's been 55 days that I've cut out my four favourite things, bread, potatoes, rice and pasta. So i've been making alternatives... Here i've made a courgette fritter to go alongside my spicy beans, portobello mushroom, avocado and tomatoes. This right here is one of my favourite brunches, why would I need to go out for brunch when I can make a tasty brunch like this... eh! (nah but I mostly don't brunch out cos I'm broke all the time)

If you already follow me, then you know I love eggs any style and here are some examples of how you can have a "dine out" style brunch! Take a look at my whole collection here.. "#Bakerseggs"

A day in... Forest Hill

Yesterday I was lucky enough to have my good friend Mirvet suggest we check out a few things in Forest Hill, and even luckier for me it's only 4 stops away on the overground. We met around 1-ish and found our lunch spot.. St David Coffee House which was right opposite the station.

A quaint cafe with rustic wooden floors, paintings for sale, a lot of vintage mirrors and peonies and spider plants in vases. The window at the front of the cafe being covered in overgrown foliage feels like you're in a garden shed, how your dad probably feels when he goes to escape the chaos. Now we get it.

I've recently gone on a no carbs diet (cutting out bread, potato, pasta and rice) so I felt extremely excited that they had this dish on their menu... I went for the corn fritta's w/ avocado, tomato, poached egg and kasundi which was so tasty. Mirvet went for the sourdough w/ avocado, bacon and poached egg. I tried not to dribble over her bread...

I didn't manage to get a snap of the amazing cake collection (probably because it would have been torture) so I stole Mirvets... c'mon I don't know how we both resisted if I'm honest.

Next we took a short walk to The Horniman Museum being the cheapskates we are we didn't pay to get into the actual museum part and as it was a dry day we walked around the gardens.

May of taken it in turns to have a mini photoshoot by this beach shack lookalike. I'd recommend these gardens for something cool to do for free in South East London, there's also a mini zoo with llamas in but it was closed when we were there but we got a quick glimpse.

A day in the life of a food Instagrammer...

So just incase you didn't know I'm the big sister of the "well known-ish" Mr Jack Baker... have you seen his Instagram? I'd recommend checking him out when you're not feeling hungry!

So he asked if I wanted to check out some markets and I said yeah go for it. We headed to Brockley Market first a small-ish food market that takes place every Saturday, I had never heard of it before this day. I decided to go for the avocado on toasted sourdough topped with asparagus, curd, chicken egg and parmesan from Bill or Beak, such a tasty healthy breakfast.

To wash down the delicious breakfast I had a cup of 'Brockley Blend' from Good & Proper Tea Co, I'm not usually keen on take away tea but this tea was so good and worth the wait. Really wanted to try their sourdough crumpets as I've heard great things but was way too full up, next time!

Jack went for this beast of a breakfast burger from Mother Flipper, a double sausage patty, steamed cloched egg, potato rosti and candy bacon in an english toasted muffin. I was glad when he said he couldn't finish it all, it was probably the nicest breakfast burger i've ever tasted (now I'm trying to remember how many breakfast burgers I've even eaten..)

After filling ourselves up at Brockley we caught an Uber onto the next... Druid Street Market. I've been here once before but missed all the food which was a shame. After following Emily from Weligama for awhile on Instagram I finally got to try an egg hopper! (if you didn't know already I'm a huge egg lover) we went for the egg hopper served with pol sambal, seeni sambol and lemon pickle sided with pork curry. So tasty and flavoursome!

Despite being full up at this point, we shared some Korean BBQ Chicken wings with coriander salsa and crushed peanuts from Tata Eatery.

After Jack had some deep fried oysters we moved on to the sweet thangs (finally..) and after longing for a Blu Top ice cream sandwich for.. well since my brother first came here I finally got to try one! We obviously doubled up and got the lemon curd + buttermilk and salty caramel ice cream sandwiched between snickerdoodle and red velvet cookies topped with choc chips. I was not disappointed however it was a bit too chilly for ice cream but we managed!

Fatties Bakery serving the tastiest sweet treats around.. no but seriously everything looks and tastes devine. Jack was lucky enough to have her make his birthday cake last year and wow it was amazing - look here - see I told you.

Below are some salted caramel cornflake bocaditos that actually look too pretty to eat and above are caramel blondies.

Where To Eat in South London... Milk

I've been to Milk in Balham three times now and it's been great every time but this was the first time since the re-vamp and it's now even more special. There's always usually a queue (out the door at times) but it's still so worth the wait!

The interior is so cute, with odd furniture, mixture of vintage and new. Visually pleasing artwork on the walls and cakes and bags of coffee for sale.

I always go for 'The Convict" which is a delicious hangover cure! It's made up of two bits of drycure bacon, moens and sons sausage, burford brown egg, poacher hash and hangover sauce in a proper english muffin (oh man I wish I was eating this right now). Washed down with R.A.F breakfast tea that came in the coolest little teapot.

The menus hang from metal hooks so you can decide before heading further inside and a cool record player (playing Jamie XX what more could you possibly want). Oh and if you've settled on eating outside despite it being like -100 degrees then they provide these cute blankets!

I couldn't recommend this place enough and I'm glad I got to take some of my friends there for our very hungover Sunday brunch.

Cheap, cheerful and relatively healthy.

If you're like me and mostly late for work in the mornings then you'd appreciate this quick and easy breakfast recipe. I spotted this on Kayla Itsines website (here) and I had to try it out for myself, being the huge egg lover I am.
Method: Pre heat the oven to 180c, and prepare a muffin tray with oil (don't use muffin cups like I did!)
Beat together the eggs, milk and flour, then add the courgette and cheese until all combined. Then pour into the muffin holes right to the top and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Then when you're rushed in the mornings just heat in the microwave for 30 seconds and enjoy! (I had mine with a teeny bit of ketchup)
